After 3 full on days selecting huge amounts of high quality koi we wake up this morning with our final farms to visit. 1st up is Hazorea Aquatics. Hazorea Aquatics is one of the biggest suppliers of ornamental fish in the world producing up to 14 million goldfish and 1 million koi each year. At Hazorea all koi are produced and reared in one giant Greenhouse this enables the farm to have complete control of the varieties, health and the quality being grown. The advantage of this process is if the farm has shortages in a particular colour of koi, they are able to start production and rear the variety separately and then add to the koi mix once they reach the the suitable size. From the pictures above it doesn't really show the scale in which this farm. This time of the season the farm is running at full capacity and it is an amazing sight to see the mass of colour in each tank. On to the Hand Pick The 2017 season has seen us use Hazorea aquatics for our small sized koi which you often find some of the high grade Tosai in the Grow on Koi section. All season long we have been working very close with the breeders here at Hazorea to bring you the customer the highest grade koi available. On the back of 2017, this year will see us not only select the high grade Grow On Koi but also some larger sizes too. Having communicated prior to our visit with the koi breeders we pin pointed some varieties we were looking for. KumonryuFirst on the list of selected koi we requested were the eye watering Kumonryu's we have been purchasing all season from Hazorea last year. They didn't disappoint !! Tancho'sNext on our list of varieties is Tancho. Here we were looking for Tancho kohaku, Tancho Sanke plus any other Tancho koi the farm had to offer. Some unusual KoiSome koi we came across in this video which we have not found else where the Karashigoi, Tancho kujaku and Doitsu Beni kikokuryu very deep red colour. All these fish were snapped up straight away. Moving swiftly on..After selecting through the very best larger fish Hazorea had to offer we then moved on to the slightly smaller species picking through 11 "koi and also some 7" koi. Here are a few examples of the Extremely high grade 11" koi we selected. Consisting of pretty much all colours and varieties. This will be a lovely mix of koi when added together. Here you see just some of the fish we have purchased. Also selected here were the 7" Koi pictured below . This completes our koi buying from Hazorea and what a day it has been. Overall the quality of the koi being produced here just get better and better year after year. The farmers have clearly been working very hard to prepare for this trip and all there hard work hasnt gone unnoticed. Many thanks To Hazorea for the hospitality and for giving us the chance to select these lovely koi. Continued Day 4 ColourfishColour Fish is the farm that produces the very best high grade Fancy Goldfish in the whole of Israel . Here we often find some stunning Orandas,Ranchus, Ryukins and others. Yet again another perk to visiting the fish farm is having the ability to hand select our own stock . Here the farm had prepared some tanks with some Oranads we had requested earlier in the trip. These fish are reared in huge volumes and the quality easily rivals Chinese or Japanese breeders. The orandas are a quirky looking goldfish with what is often described as a brain shaped jelly on there head. Some thing a little different shall we say for fish keepers. We also looked through a number of new varieties the farm is working on and also picked up a few on the way. Below you will see the Telescope eys and the Ranchus we selected through. This was a nice way to finish our trip. This year we have picked some incredible koi and cant wait to get them back to the UK. To everyone in Israel who have made this trip so special we Thank You.
Keep checking our blog and website for updates on the new fish arrival date. Our eagerly anticipated trip to Madan Koi is here. Discussions we have had with the farm in the weeks prior our visit it is already clear the quality of the koi on show will surpass previous years. After our quick tour around the tanks this becomes crystal clear. Some of the stunning Showa SankesMadankoi have really excelled in recent years with some unbelievable Showa sankes being produced. The Quality being offered today easily rival Showa sankes from breeders in Japan and around the world . The sheer drive from Aviv and the other members in the Madan Koi team are really starting to show. How about Some High Grade SankesAfter carefully selecting some of the Many High Grade Showa Sankes prepared we moved along to some of these beauties. The Hi and Beni colour of the Sankes we were offered were simply stunning. It took quite some time sorting through these koi. With Doitsu, Gin Rin and Regular Taisho Sanke There is really something for everyone. The Hi so bright its difficult to just ignore them .The hard work gone into the selection of these koi by the farm shows just how high the bar has been set. Goshiki in Israel ??????Thats right you read this right over the last few hand pick trips the fish Goshiki has been a little bit of a sore point for the farmers in Madan Koi. With lots of different parent spawnings to acheive the perfect looking Goshki, this year seems to be the year. We saw some truly outstanding examples of the Goshiki that has been produced this year. These were an easy pick for us we had already purchased them before the nets went in. Kohaku Krazy !!Speaking of Quality Koi produced this year the number of Kohakus selected was a welcome sight for us. The patterns and Hi Colouring just Superb. Looking at some of these Kohakus it is going to be very difficult to part with some of these. The kohaku is a fish easily distinguished by most fish keepers but these fish with there strong Red and White appearence will certainly make the heads turn . The ones seen today were just something else. Time for some Jumbos ...Another of the many projects being worked upon here at Madan is the Jumbo koi 60cm+. With many of these Koi grown to a large size in relatively short periods of time it leaves plenty of growth to develop further once added to the hobbyists pond. All fish grown on are carefully selected by the Breeders and are deemed as exceptional fish. Here are a few of the Larger koi purchased . This pick was proving to be very costly every fish we bowled to take alook at we kept. More fish were purchased in these sizes but not pictured to great think the camera man had one to many drinks the night before. Lunch breakWith the Jumbos picked it was time for some late lunch before we continued the selecting. Nothing better than traditional Israeli cuisine. While we eat lunch its nice to over look the farm and see some of the wildlife currently thriving here. With Madan offering a almost buffet style restaurant for many bird varieties like King Fishers, Hawks,Herons and other birds of prey, you quite often see some unusual birds seen nowhere else . This little Goldie sat on the car. Back to the Koi Selecting.Straight Back to it . The full bellys didnt slow us down the first bowl after lunch was a treat in itself. Couple bowls of really top grade koi selected in quick succession. The fish just keep coming and there seems no end in sight. Many Hours On from this with lots of pictures missed through our relentless picking, we have finally completed the selecting, or so we thought. Aviv then gave us the chance to select the new koi shown in Madan Koi facility something he seemed excited about. The New Long Fin Koi which have been reared here at Madan were a real treat to end our visit here. These fish were just to good to select so we purchased the whole tank consisting of roughly 150 fish sized bewteen 9 and 13" inch . Thank you to Madan KoiA huge thank you is in order for Aviv and all the members at the farm for all there hard work. It has been a very memorable trip with so many unbeliveable koi purchased.
After what was a very successful first day at Ganshmuel where late on before we left we managed to hand select High volumes of 7" Koi with a mixture of long fins and regular fin high quality in total we selected 1150 fish in 7" size on top of all the other larger fish we picked. Our trip to Dag Noy tofday is equally as exciting. Todays trip on record is normally one of our best farms for high volumes of high quality koi. Today we are looking for some various varities which we probably will not find at any of the other farms . Dag Noy fish farm like most farms in Israel offer almost all varieties of koi in all sizes. Today we have been told that there are limited numbers of a rare variety we are looking for which the Farm has very kindly prepared specially for our visit. This is fantastic news for us and cant wait to see what they have insore for us. The Doitsu OchibaHere is the first bowl of fish purchased . With there unusual autum leaves colours and patterns these fish are proving to be a very poular one amongst our customers. For the last few seasons Dag Noy have been perfecting the Doitsu strain. Not only are many of the Ochibas Doitsu they also have few with scales across the back which are of Gin Rin appearance. Also purchased in here are the Chocolate coloured Chagoi's. The Lemon Hariwake Another batch purchased, these very high quality Hariwakes are again a sign of how hard the farm has worked in developing some koi which prove to be very difficult to find else where . With there pale lemon colour splashed across the brilliant white skin these fish are a fine example of the perfect Hariwake. High Quality SankeOur usual purchase from Dag Noy are the High Quality Sankes with large amounts being Doitsu. We almost take it for granted each year as the farm manage to produce such high quality Sankes year after year. These are some of the many bowls of Sankes we purchased. Utsuri SelectionsAnother fine example in the amazing koi we got to pick through . The Utsuri's here we have picked up Ki, Kinki, Hi and Shiro Utsuri all stunning in there own right. The biggest stand out fish were the Kinki and Ki Utsuris like the video above. With there very striking colour and patterns these fish just seemed to glow amongst the other koi. Showa Sanke Doitsu And Kohaku'sWith Doitsu Showa still a little thin on the ground across the farms this Doitsu Kindai Showa was a welcome sight. With huge potential to become a cracking showa lovely Hi and Beni against a almost pure white skin. Kumonryu and Unusual Koi |
