Our final day sees us travel to Madan Koi. Having viewed the koi already we cant wait to get there and start the picking. The weather is superb so should make for a good day all round.
Coming in to the packing facility we say many more birds of prey. The farm have a continuous battle of repairing the bird netting to keep them from eating the the fish.
We start by taking another look around the tanks to refresh our memories. The quality of the koi is at the highest level. Already after just seeing the first tank we know there will be alot of fish purchased today.
So we get straight to it. We start off on the tank with the koi in a size of 13" to 15". The kohakus are just out of this world.
Below is a small sample of some of the many
With so many beautiful koi we are blown away by the quality. This little gem almost got missed a gorgeous Showa sanke.
After many more koi we moved over to the next sizes selecting some slightly larger koi.
How about some Special Koi ?
Yes thats right we then got the opportunity to have a look at selected few special koi the breeder and his team have prepared for us.
The jumbo koi we selected were excellent and will be available to view as soon as we get the back. The pictures dont do them any justice as we were running out of time and they were abit rushed. Here below is just one image to wet the appetite.
This then concluded our visit. Today has been largely successful and have secured many many high grade koi. January 2020 trip has been a very special trip all round.
Yet again another fantastic day of weather. First thing this morning we set off for a pre visit to Madan Koi.
Walking in to Madan Koi facility we stop and watch the magnificent King Fisher in action.
The pre visit is almost as important as the actual selecting of the koi. We get to view all the high quality fish that have been prepared for us and take notes of the fish before start at Dag Noy.
After a couple of hours of viewing the koi they have prepared for us, its clear to see how amazing these fish truely are. Some of the Kohakus we will be buying are out of this world.
As time is against us we reluctantly stop staring at the beautiful fish and move on to our next place where we will select some fancy goldfish.
This huge indoor facility is one of many buildings this farm use for the production of there fancy goldfish.
We get straight to work and in no time at all select over 100 various high grade Orandas.
This started our morning off quite nicely. We then jumped into the car and made our way to Dag Noy. On route to Madan we pass some really picturesque views
On arrival we are greeted by one of the most dedicated workers on the farm
We then start to view some of the tanks to decide where we start our buying below is just one of the 12 tanks prepared for us to select from.
After an intense look at all the tanks we make a start. To make things easier for us to keep track we select by varieties.
Wasting no time we select a very large number of very high quality koi. Below are some examples.
The quality of fish was something else. The farm really has pulled out all the stops for us.
We have some truely mesmorising fish . This year we will be introducing a new section to the webpage featuring our SPECIAL KOI which were previously only available in our store. Here are a few examples to wet the appetite.
With some many koi it was time for a break.
After lunch its straight back to buisness, with this stunning Kin Kikokuryu.
One of the mpst desirable fish in the koi are the unusual Doitsu fish with the beautiful scalation down there spine.
We finish off with a couple very nice koi.
This concluded our january 2020 visit to Dag Noy. We look forward to many more exciting trips in the years to come. Im not sure they will ever be quite the same as this trip was the last one where we have had the privilege to work with our good friend Etan. After more than 30 years in the koi industry he is retiring from his role. We have been fortunate to work with Etan throughout his career. A special thank you to Etan for all the wonderful koi, laughter and hospitality. Many thanks and good luck with the future.
Day 2 and this morning the weather seems a little more settled than the previous days. Today we travel down to Hazorea fish farm to select some koi.
Upon arrival we are greeted by some of the staff from the offices and after a quick chat its straight up to the fish department to view the koi.
On our way through the farm we pass some of the spare equipment kept for the mudponds they have. The Hazorea farm is the largest supplier of Goldfish,Sarassa and shubunkins in Israel along with many other varieties. Its fair to say its a pretty big set up they have.
Going up to the fish house we greet the breeders. Always good to be met by there smiley faces.
The Koi facility here is massive and this farm was the pioneer of indoor koi production. There is always something new in the production line and the breeders are keen to show them off.
The pictures really dont do it justice. All of these tanks are are alive with fish and at this time of the year they are at full capacity. Its a great sight to see that they are able to successfully keep and grow such a large density of fish in the tanks with almost zero casualties. With huge Biofilters the farm is able to circulate a collossal amount of water to generate excellent water conditions for the fish.
Straight to buisness we start by selecting some of the smaller fish first. These fish will be showcased in the grow on koi section of the webpage.
A superb selection of various Tanchos are just a small snippet of the quality we seleceted here.
Some of the koi we crave the most are the Yamato Nishiki and kikusui. The amazing skin quality and deep colouring makes these fish a real stand out koi in any pond.
The fish just keep on coming. We cannot beleive the amount of fish prepared for our visit.
A few hours and hundreds of fish later we decide reluctantly to walk away and start the larger fish.
The first of the bigger koi are these stunners sized between 11" to 13" and will all be priced at £125 each.
Now we move over for the larger Koi. These are all sized between 13" up to 17" they will be individually priced between £150 up to £250.
Saved the best till last . These koi will be individually priced and will not be found anywhere else in big numbers across any farm in Israel.
This concludes our visit we have had a very productive day and have secured some amazing koi. Tomorrow sees us selecting at Dag Noy
Our first day in Israel takes us to 3 farms in total. First on the list is a pre visit to Madan koi 's small koi facility. Upon arrival we are greeted with the usual mass of high quality fish.
Inside the facility the ponds are brimming with koi. This farm breed and grow all of there fish under one huge roof. Walking around the tanks you get to see the early stages of the production from egg to presorted and then finally graded and sized. Below is some early stage koi of mixed variety.
The scale of production is massive. In this huge building alone the farm is able to successfully grow and reproduce millions of different varieties of koi all year round.
The breeder is very eager to show us his koi he has produced. There are some really nice fish. Some of the kikusui and metallic varieties are amongst this batch plus many other colours they have.
Before we left the farm we had a short stroll around some of the ponds. As we walked upto one of the ponds we noticed a small rustle in the reed beds.
Sat in and amongst the reeds is a Nutria casually munching some of the vegetation.
Since the weather was dry and and the sight of the Nutria still fresh we spent about 20 minutes taking in some wildlife in and around the ponds.
After our visit here we then move on to our next farm. At this farm expectations are high. This is where they produce some of the very best Butterfly koi to be found anywhere in the world.
It didn't disappoint! The facility although relatively small in comparison to rival farms is a well organised and is very specialist in what they do. Almost all the koi here being produced will not be found at the same quality anywhere else in Israel.
Here are some of the many stunning varieties being produced which we have carefully hand selected.
With so many varieties on show the mix of butterfly we have selected are stunning and all have some tremendous long fins. There long pectorals and tail fin really are something to admire on these koi.
After a great morning selecting some stunning fish we then move on to the fancy Goldfish farm. Here we hope to see some Top class Orandas and perhaps various other strains.
This huge facility only produces Goldfish . The breeder has excellent stock of some very high quality examples. We cant wait to come back and do our selecting . This concludes what has been a great day all round. Tomorrow sees us at Hazorea koi farm where we will be selecting huge volumes of the best quality koi available.
Our January Hand pick trip starts on the 23rd. 2019 has been another record year in koi sales. On the back of this our fish stocks are a lot lower than usual, so this trip will see a big increase in our koi purchases made. Looking back in 2019 we saw some an incredible selection of high quality Koi. Below are some examples of the fish that have been sold this year.
As we approach our trip the farmers have been sending there usual photos and pictures of some koi they are working with and preparing for us to select.
Seeing some of the koi being prepared only adds to the excitement. One of the exciting projects coming out of a leading koi farm is a new bloodline of Yamato-nishki`s, which has got us all excited! In addition to this the metallic strain has also been a work in progress with some real stunning fish being produced.
Day one of arrival will see us do a pre-visit of Madan Koi where they will have specially selected a wide range of Koi, of all sizes, to showcase to us. Below is an example of a koi in which has been showcased to us.
Day 2-4 will then see our purchasing begin across multiple Koi farms, so keep your eyes peeled as the blog pages will be updated daily.
If you are wanting any particular koi then please feel free to contact us via email with details of your perfect koi. We will then select a number of your desired koi and send some photos so you are then spoilt for choice.
Final day sees us travel back to Gan shmuel to start our selection.
\nOn our pre visit here we found some really nice smaller koi which the breeder is very kindly letting us select from.
Its another gorgeous day, thankfully the temperature here is a little less than yesterday's. Gan shmuel is one of the biggest kibbutz in Israel and hosts a few other very large manufacturing companys. One of which is the oranje juice factory selling juice around the world.
After another brief look around we quickly get to it and start selecting . As you can see these koi are a really high quality .
This process will be reasonably fast as the breeder has prepared his koi in smaller more manageable tanks for us to catch the koi in.
There is a great selection of high quality koi in many different varieties the farm has done superb this year with the breeding.
From here we then went on to select some butterfly koi.
A great trip overall at Gan Shmuel next on the list is Madan Koi.
Upon arrival we get straight to work start selecting some fantastic 11" sized koi .
Stunning quality of fish and they just keep coming.
We also managed to pick up some kin kikokuryu.
Many fish later we then picked up a stunning kumonryu which is
It's another beautiful day today temperatures already in the 30's and its only early in the morning. Firstly we travel to Madan koi for a pre visit to find out what koi they have prepared
There are so many tanks of koi on show we have very carefully viewed the tanks and taken notes on particular koi we will make sure we secure.
The fish are stunning
After visiting Madan we head out to Gan Shmuel fish farm for a pre visit. This farm produce some excellent koi And also stunning Butterfly koi. We are greeted by there gaurd dog.
There is plenty of koi on show and as always the quality is excellent. There is going to be some tough decisions made on our visit back here. Now we are on route to Dag Noy. On the borders of Jordan this farm has so of the most fantastic scenery looking onto the hills of the neighbouring country.
As well as hosting a huge koi facilty in this valley it is also very famous for many other wildlife. With lots of produce being grown in this area it is not short on food for the flocks of birds present.
We are greeted to a tremendous wave of heat as we step out of the car with temperatures well into the 40's. Climbing into the ponds can't happen soon enough
With lots of koi on show here we decided to select in varieties to make sure we didn't miss any koi.
Some fantastic Platinum Ogon and also some very bright kujaku purchased.
We then moved to the Matsuba and kikokuryu tank this is going to be a tough selection . Too many srunning koi .
Some very high quality koi we picked in this tank . The clean bright skin matched with the unique zip like scales running down there back.
Goromo's a plenty. Usually a difficult fish to find in this quality these fish went straight in to our floating bowl.
As you can also see we managed to secure the Hi utsuri as well as Kinki Utsuri, shusui and Asagi.
It is impossible to visit this farm and not take there Gin Rin Sanke and kohaku. The lust and strength of the colours are something not found any where else.
Its only fitting we toast to a succesful trip here today . Tomorrow sees us travel back to Gan Shmuel and Nadan Koi to do the Selecting there.
Today sees us travel to Hazorea Kibbutz fish farm. This farm as mentioned on past blogs is where we purchase the grow on koi. The quality of koi from this farm is exceptional. The farm has been able to offer some of the most unusual and high quality varieties not normally seen in smaller sized koi.
As always looking around the farm is truly mesmerizing. The sheer quantity of koi being produced her is unbelievable. Although the farm produces very high volumes of koi, they are also very strict of the selection process. With space of huge importance the breeders will only select what they deem as the top quality koi to grow on.
Before we start tge breeders are quick to show us what they have been working on. Currently the farm is starting the breeding for next season . Here you see some fry which are currently only a few weeks old.
At this size the fish are yet to be graded. They are around 1-2cm in size and its hard to make out what the fish may turn out as. It certainly takes a skilled eye to select at this size. At the time we were here we also witnessed them hand stripping the eggs dor the females.
It was now time to start the selecting.
The quality of fish on show are of a very high quality. Simply spoilt for choice so many beautiful koi.
After about 3 hours of selecting we have picked just under 1000 koi. Hard work when your working in 35 degrees temperature.
We have bought some amazing koi and had a really memorable day. Just before we leave to the next destination we take in some wildlife in the fields .
A good snap of a king fisher.
It was nice to see some of the local wildlife even of the do munch on some of the koi.
Our next visit takes us to the farm where we buy Butterfly koi. This season has seen a sharp rise in the amount of Butterfly koi sold.
This is a relitively small farm compared to others. They concentrate on Butterfly koi production. Here we managed to secure a number of fish which we have no doubt will fly out of our door.
Today has been very successful and we have purchased some very High Quality koi . We look forward to getting them back and on sale .
So the time is here we set off this morning to travel to Israel to start our hand selecting trip. After a very busy few months this trip ciuldnt come soon enough.
This year we are concentrating our selecting on buying as many different varieties as we can get. We have had a sharp rise in sales on rare and unusual breeds.
As we are in constant contact with all the breeders, we have already pre advisdd them on what we are looking for. They have been posting and sending us various videos this week of the fish they have prepared for our trip.
Tomorrow sees us start our picking at Hazorea koi facility. Check oir our blod tomorrow and keep upto date on the latest purchases .
After a busy week trying to get prepared for the incoming shipment of koi, today was the day. Its begins with a nice early morning drive to the airport in the fog!
Shortly after arriving the truck containing all the koi we have purchased pulls up. All 150 boxes fill the truck completetly.
We quickly unloaded the truck and filled up all 3 vans with the boxes ready for the drive back to our facility.
Once the vans pulled up stage one of our operation begins. It was all hands a deck as we unloaded all 150 boxes by hand one at a time. With each box weighing in excess of 25kg its as well we had all had our wheatabix.
All the boxes were stacked in a order to determine which pond they were to be released in . From here each bag is removed from the box and carried into our facility to start the acclimatisation process.
4 Hours later all the koi have been released in the water and will now start our strict quarantine procedure. In around 7 days we will start to lift some koi up and start listing for presale. Stay tuned for more updates on when the koi will be available.
